About Little Vine
Theresa Hizon
My name is Theresa and I am honored to be guiding your child in this home-based preschool on our family vineyard. My lifetime profession has been teaching with a recent retirement. I hold a California teaching credential (preschool-adult) with extensive experience instructing younger elementary students both in the classroom and most recently as a reading specialist. I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren and family, reading and going for walks.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to guide students’ education in a loving, safe and nurturing home environment. Together with their families we strive to set each child up for success where playing, learning and growing are valued.
Educational Philosophy
My educational philosophy is that all students have a right to learn, maximize their full potential and grow a life-long love of learning. The focus is on the whole child learning at his or her own pace with developmentally appropriate activities which promote social, cognitive, physical and emotional growth. I believe there are five essential elements which are conducive to learning:
The teacher’s role is that of a guide with gentle encouragement and questioning.
Student’s must have access to hands-on activities.
Student’s should be given opportunities for collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and communication to become valued members of our community.
Student’s should feel respected and comfortable to take risks and practice skills in a safe place of culturally diverse backgrounds.
I aim to partner with students, families and communities to be part of the village in our learning to grow environment.
